I recently bought an unlocked slvr and put my t-mobile sim card inside. For some reason the phone shows cingular as the service provider when clearly I'm still under my t-mobile contract. Also my reception has noticeably decreased. I'm wondering if the specific phone I've got is defective or if reception with slvr in general is bad. Since t-mobile doesn’t offer the slvr as a phone option, could this be the reason for the problems I’m experiencing?

Any suggestions on what your past experience is greatly appreciated along with any thoughts on where I could go to have the phone checked out.

First of all, the reason why your phone shows Cinguar is because it is a Cingular phone. Although unlocked, your phone is programed and will show Cingular at the top forever unless you modify the firmware. You can find the technical instructions to do this online:

As far as reception, in general the SLVR is excellent. It is possible that your phone is defective, but much more likley that your reception problems stem from the fact that you are not using a T-Mobile phone. The reason why companies lock their equipment, is because they download important system configurations to each handset to ensure that it works properly. I would recommend taking your SLVR to your local T-Mobile and make sure that your phone has the most current software installed, and mabey they can troubleshoot it for you as well. Good luck!!! Hope that helps! :)

I definatly think there might be something to T-Mobile not offering that phone. You really might want to go to your dealer and see what they say. There might be something they need to change to fix this problem.
