Most universities have their own job shop where they have vacancies for students. Try retail work or some other customer service work. I know it's not great but it gives you some money. I did retail and food services work all through my studies and it was alright. As long as you don't sacrifice your studeis for the sake of a few £ and stick to some sort of time management plan, you'll be fine. I think it's a great thing for students to work, it gives you something else to think about instead of deadlines. You should be able to get a job fairly easily, and at 10 hours you should manage to fit it all in.

Why don't you ask your lecturers if they need any help, or advertise yourself as a tutor in your subject? I knew a lot of students who helped exchange students with their English skills.

Your best bet is probably retail. Most businesses close in the evening, but stores remain open. You could also look into waiting tables or tending bar. Another possibility is working for the university in a student position. Most universities have clerical positions for students and need help in computer labs and such.

I worked several jobs in college. On weekends I worked in a video store, and during the week I worked in the credit department for a department store. It got tough sometimnes, especially during test weeks. Be glad you're in the UK and have socialized medicine - I contracted pneumonia while in college with no insurance and had to work for several weeks with a high fever and no money to pay for a doctor :-( After that I got a student position at my university working as a receptionist/assistant billing clerk. That was much easier because I didn't have to worry about driving between work and school.

I know of a student who got a job at the college library which worked out great. It was a work-study job at a US college.

I work full time and study part time.. not easy... I would try and get a bar job if you live in london, or wherever you live, but make sure it is one where you get tips (like a posh bar). I used to work in a cheapo bar once and then, when I moved to the posh one, I realised I could make twice as much working half of the time by getting tips...

What about an office cleaner? They usually work between 5.30 and 8pm during the week. If you work Monday to Friday then you'll probably bring home about £50. (Also, as a student, it'll be tax free).

a very good option is to work from home on your computer - write articles, sell on eBay, make a website, take surveys...nd make money on ur own!

or just join some local restaurant or pizza joint or do stuff like cleaning, gardening, babysitting and so on! Such opportunities abound in local classifieds and billboards, just check around :)

Office cleaning is usually about 2 hours a night at about £5 per hour, so that might be something to consider.
