You need to sit down and elevate you foot
Also put some ice on it and take some tylenol, try not to put any pressure on it ..
If it doesnt get better then you need to see your doctor

Walking on it is NOT a good idea.
Wrap it in an Ace wrap, elevate it, and put ice on it for 15 minutes every couple of hours. Also, take some Motrin (Advil, Ibuprofen) every 6 hours. It will help with the inflammation.
If it's not better in a day, call your doctor, or go to an urgent care to have it Xrayed to make sure you didn't do more that sprain it.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Actually you should be sitting down with an ice pack wrapped in a tea towel, 15 min on 15 min off. It's normal for it not to hurt as bad as long as you walked on it, but once you come to rest, that's when it starts hurting. Take an Advil or an Aspirin as they are anti inflammatory and should help with the pain.

You can walk on it only if you do the following. First tape of brace your foot. Only walk if you really need to. You shouldn't do anything that causes your ankle to hurt. If you hurt your ankle in the past 72 hours, you will need to ice it. Only ice it, do not use heat. When using ice, only ice it for 15 minutes. When not icing it, wear a brace and a shoe. You'll want to have pressure on your ankle. And then finally, elevate your ankle. Make sure it is above your heart.

Did you twist or injure it in any way? I'm 44 and just recently developed gout which is an accumulation of naughty, for lack of a better word at this time, crystals on the ankle joint. Puffy and sore suddenly. Ice to reduce swellinging of course and never take any yahooer's medical advice as I suspect not many physicians hang out here:) See a doctor honey.

Your body is trying to tell you something. Don't walk on it any more. Go to an ER and get an Xray, it could be broken. If not, it still needs taping for support. Forget about chasing your toddler. You're not going to be able to. Make arrangements for a sitter.

Put ice on it, and stay off it as much as you can. If it's easier, use an unopened bag of frozen veggies from the freezer. Pop it back in when it starts to thaw, or leave it out and use the veggies for supper. Use a pain reliever that works for you. Wrap it with an elastic wrap for support. If you really can't walk on it and need to get around in the house, put your knee on a chair and use that to help you get around. (I did this for a sprained ankle once for a couple of days.) Yes, drag the chair around with you and keep your knee on it -- the knee of the leg with the bad foot. Your wee one will love watching Mommy be silly this way.

If it doesn't start getting better in a couple of days, you may need to see a doctor about it.

yeah if you can walk on it go ahead and walk on it. it's probably just sprained or twisted. if you broke your ankle, you would not be up walking around on it. you would be in too much pain. if this extreme pain and swollenness continues for a week you should probably go to your doctor. in the meantime, wrap your ankle with an ace bandage.

go to the doc to get some painkillers and other pills and some crutches so you can be at least vaguely mobile.
just because you can walk on it means nothing, i broke my leg and walked half a mile to the station and caught a train on it.

with a toddler the painkillers will come in handy especially if u do something and you get knocked.
