Yeah, I SURE AM!!!!

And as a matter of fact, he is one of the FEW bonafide "movie stars" I've ever met (sort of)! It was in the summer of '89, when he was just starting to film "Pretty Woman" (the first scene) on Hollywood Blvd. This was where he was in that fancy silver sports car (whatever it was!) - and Julia Roberts first gets into the car with him and introduces herself. Everyone there like me, not connected to the production of the film, was going around asking each other, " WHO is Julia Roberts???!" Not many people had even heard of her yet at the time! This was her "break-through" role that made her a star. So I didn't really take much notice of her at the time, to tell you the truth. In fact, I was there for 3 or 4 nights in a row watching them film this scene again & again, and it got to where even though I didn't approach Richard Gere directly, he evidently recognized me, because before they moved to another location, I walked past him one night as he sat in his chair on the sidewalk waiting between takes, and he SMILED & NODDED at me, which told me that I had become a familiar face to him!!! There was just that unmistakable look of recognition. It was very cool. Since I didn't want to seem like a nuisance, I didn't ever ask for an autograph, but now I kinda wish I DID! I did, however, manage to discreetly take one candid photo, without bugging him to "pose" for me - and it's a classic. It's him, with his arm around Julia (in her "hooker" outfit & blonde wig), walking together between takes. It's fairly close -up, and even though they aren't looking directly AT my camera, you can plainly see it's them. Ironically, I was disappointed when I first got it developed. I thought it was a great picture of Richard Gere, but I was cursing over the fact that "some girl" also got in the picture. It wasn't until after the movie came out (probably the next year, in '90) that I realized that the "girl" in my photo was his CO-STAR, and that Julia Roberts would soon be a "superstar" in her own right!!!!!!

(I almost forgot this part - the first night I was there to watch them film, I was standing on the sidewalk talking to some guy, trying to get information. This guy, it turns out, was friends with a girl named Linda, who was a friend of Richard Gere's. Suddenly, a group of 5 or 6 people came walking down the sidewalk. The guy I was talking to says to one of them, "Hey, Linda sends her best" - or words to that effect. The guy he was talking to stopped dead in his tracks, and started asking how Linda was doing. I remember him saying that he knew she "wasn't a happy person" - still, he seemed concerned about her. I was standing there the whole time, staring into space, completely unaware of who had interrupted the conversation I was in with the guy I was talking to. I was ignoring the whole thing! When the second guy went on down the sidewalk with his small group, the guy I'd been talking to turned to me and said, "Don't you KNOW who that WAS???!!" I said no, I hadn't been paying any attention. I barely gave him a passing glance. When he informed me that man was RICHARD GERE, I was just FLOORED!!! He had stood not 3 feet away from me for at least 5 minutes talking, and I had completely ingnored him! Maybe that's why he nodded & smiled at me later on - I was the girl who didn't even LOOK at him when he first saw ME! - The reason I didn't recognize him instantly was because I was looking for a dark-haired Richard Gere, and by this time it was salt-and-pepper.)

Even though I can't claim that I had an actual conversation with him, I'd estimate that over the course of 3 or 4 nights, I must have spent 20 -30 hours in his presence as he was filming. In my opinion, not only is he one of the finest, most versatile actors EVER - he is also an intelligent, caring, modest, and refined GENTLEMAN! He is a class act, all the way. I just wonder when Hollywood's gonna wake up - and give this man an Academy Award?! He certainly DESERVES it! His talent is vastly underrated.

I've liked ALL of his movies, but I DO have my favorites. Of course, "An Officer & A Gentleman" has always been at the top of my list, but recently, I saw a newer one that really blew me away. It's title is "Unfaithful" with Diane Lane, and I guess it's not really all that new anymore, but I saw it for the first time when I rented it a few months ago. A "MUST SEE"!!!!!!!!!

I like his movies. I met him once when he was filming Mothman Prophecies in my town. It wasn't that big of a deal to me though. He tried talking to my grandmother and she wouldn't even say hi to him. She was mad that they had blocked off the streets in town to film the movie. I kind of only like him because he was filming the movie here. Have a nice day.
