See links below to research some of these remedies to try:

OTC:
o Doxylamine Succinate (Unisom)--This seems to work differently/better for me than diphenhydramine HCL

ALTERNATIVE:
o Magnesium (NATURAL CALM by Peter Gilliams Natural Vitality)--
This is a water-soluble, bio-available, fast-acting form of magnesium that promotes calm and sleep.
o Melatonin--a naturally ocurring "sleep hormone" produced by the pineal gland that decreases with age.
Supplements can promote healthy sleep patterns. Suggested by my Neurologist.
o Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)--A mild sedative herb that has a calming effect and promotes sleep.

HOMEOPATHIC:
o Bach Flower Remedies Rescue® Sleep--Safe, fast-acting spray
o Coffea Crudea 12C (Boiron)--Single Ingredient
o Hyland's Calms Tabs--
Contains: Plant Extract of Passiflora 1X Triple Strength (passion flower), Avena Sativa 1X Double Strength (oat), Humulus Lupulus1X Double Strength (hops), Chamomilla 2X (chamomile)

HERBAL MIXTURES:
o Silent Night (Nature's Way)--Contains Valerian, skullcap, hops and passionflower
o Look for herbal mixtures containing these "sleep inducers"
--Hops
--Skullcap
--Lemon Balm Herb Extract (Passiflora incarnata)
--Chamomile Flowers

hi... I think many have the same problem.. Get to bed early... Even though you go to bed at 11pm... Sleep might come to your eyes only within half an hour or so... Take a light meal at night.. Make it a practice to take supper at an early time... Let dreams come... Embrace them... Have a smile on your face as you are active during your sleep.... This will relax facial muscles...A good sleep depends on the whole day that we spend... A pleasant day spend always helps in good sleep... Short breaks during sleep does no harm... A study recently showed that people having breaks during sleep are less prone to heart attack... Dont worry about anything and sleep tightly... Have a good sleep everyday!

I take benadryl before bed. Works every time. Sometimes I have a hard time waking up in the morning after that. Cheaper than sleeping pills, though.

Tylenol PM (which is Tylenol and Benadryl) or a store brand of Acetominophen and Diphenhydramine. Advil makes a PM now too (Ibruprofen and Diphenhydramine).

Get a better mattress. The memory foam mattresses are supposed to be good. If you don't have a good mattress, no medication or trick in the book is going to help you get a more restful sleep.

Kava kava root tablets do it for me. It's some kind of natural muscle relaxant and does well for helping me sleep all night well, even when I don't think my muscles are tense. They're available at a health food store or at the drug section of a regular store.
