The mid '50s is as far back as I can remember, so it has to predate that. Like it or lump it was one of my mother's sister's favorite replies, and where I first heard it. I like to say it to my daughter when something beyond her control comes up. I get some really puzzled looks.

I do. Yes we do date ourselves but honestly I don't know who or what some of these quesitons are about the modern day actors and singers, pop stars, etc.

i remember it very well. i told my son's dad that 4 years ago and he lumped it. and my boy is 4 so it's still true.

My mom used this on an almost daily basis, so I remember it. I'm 24, and am sometimes tempted to say it. You haven't 'dated yourself', don't worry!
