I've read:
-Sidharta
-Steppenwolf
-Demian
-The Glass Bead Game
-Peter Kamenzind
-The Last summer of Klingsor
-Knulp
-Under the wheel
I love the first three, and because of them Hermann Hesse is my favourite author. Im lithuanian and i read everything in lithuanian, and while i was in germany i bought Steppenwolf in german. When i read the first book i was 16, and the last ones couple months ago, being 17.

Read all the ones mentioned above, in English, about 35 years ago (52). Found them rather surreal, and some were much harder to understand than others. One interesting thing, if you read The Glass Bead Game - Hesse had issues with the German university system. If you look closely, that entire book is a send-up of academe.

I read Demian, Steppenwolf, Narziß und Goldmund, Siddartha, Unter'm Rad und Das Glasperlenspiel etc. when I was 14 (looks like that is the appropriate age 14-16). At that time I loved his novels - that's why I read almost all. I don't appreciate him nowadays - meanwhile I thin they are too pompous/pathetic. But that might change again - though I don't think so. I read them in German which is my native language.

I've read Siddharta and Under the Wheel in my native language German when I was still at school. I liked them both but I think Siddharta was the better one. I think I was between 14 and 17 when I read them.

I've read several of his books: Steppenwolf, Damien, Siddhartha, Narcissus and Goldman. He's a very profound writer who captures my imagination like no other writer. I've read him in English and I started reading him when I was in my twenties
