At 109lbs, your BMI is at 19.3, which is the very low end of the normal range. If you lose 13lbs, your BMI will be 17, which is VERY low (in an anorexic weight range). (Normal is 18.5–24.9, Overweight is 25.0–29.9). I would NOT recommend losing weight, and if you feel compelled to do so, you should seek help.

What's your relationship with food and body like? If you are eating when hungry and stopping when full, that's a good sign. If you are restricting your caloric intake to maintain a lower weight, or you are compulsively overeating, that will certainly throw off your metabolism.

As an athlete, I would HIGHLY recommend that you consult with a nutritionist, and be medically monitored if you do lose weight. There are many medical complications that can arise from dropping to such a low weight.

Here's more info. on eating and body image problems, and also to find support groups and/or a therapist who specializes in athletes with eating issues. You can also find a nutritionist on this site.

Ok hun, just because you see an article that says you need to weight 98 lbs to win a marathon, dosent make it gospel! The key to winning in long distance is STAMINA. Training, eating the RIGHT foods (carbs), weight training, etc. All of these components act together to make your body be able to endure such stressors (running long distances at a time). PLEASE please dont think that you are overweight because of this article, your body needs a little extra fat with a workout such as yours to feed off of. If you SERIOUSLY have questions about your weight and your track career, then talk to your coach and your Dr. Im sure they will tell you the same thing that I have, but they may be able to put your mind a little more at ease. Good luck hun!

Don't listen to those ads. You may think that it will help your run better but it won't. However, if you really want to lose weight just keep running daily and stop eating any junk food. Bye and good luck.

you don't need to lose weight. you need to eat healthy and fuel your body correctly so you can train harder. maybe you need to train more. if you lose weight, you will not have the energy to run. i used to run 7 miles a day, and i was all muscle. i lifted and ran and ate 3 moderate meals and 3 snacks a day. i eat real food...whole wheat, whole grain, high fiber carbs, lean proteins, and plenty of fresh fruits, vegies, berries, lean proteins, soy products and non fat dairy products. if you lose this weight, you will be doing more harm than good. talk to your coach about how to improve your performance. good luck

make sure you have a good diet, and EAT BREAKFAST! YOU NEED BREAKFAST! if you eat breakfast, your matabolism increases which is good for you too lose wieght, so eat breakfgast, and eat your course meals properly, and get good nutrition, no diet pills, NONE! and working out can help, but your matabolism playus an important role in this case, and for snacks, eat cheese sticks or something GOOD, i'm skinny as heck, and 13, and i take drugs...which is candy lol, i seriously eat too much, but i take care of myself afterwards, i clean my face and stuff, and eat right, but i have go to stop eating candy dso much lol, it's like ciggerettes for kids llmao, but yea, eat breakfast, annd keep up the good work your currently doing okay, OO ALSO, for the winning thing, you need to keep practicing to keep up your stamina, stamina is very important, not your speed!

Hi Jessi, I am not going to be mean to you because it is your personal choice to lose the weight. If you eat healthy, low carb/sugar diet and exercise(which you do) then you should be able to shed the pounds. Please do not use diet pills because they are so unsafe!! Also, if this isn't working try cutting some calories(not a lot)and exercising.
