I agree with the others, it would be best for the bird to give it to another person to handle....
but if you really want to, then I suggest putting some bird food outside of the open cage when the bird is hungry to lure it out...

The domesticated bird may die very fast in the predatory outside world. It's used to being fed and taken care of.
If you still want to set it ' free ' ... just leave the cage door open and let it come and go.
Maybe you'll get to like it better if it keeps coming back..

my moms birds were like that, so she would let them outside in the grass and look over them oh and she also put the cage in the grass and they had the freedom to get in and out of their cage.
