Windows is still the leading OS yet, and I do have both.
You may try some linux flavors at the link below (collect it as many as you want!), especially DSL (Damn Small Linux, which is very small - about 50MB), and boot it from CD. It's ok as a demo (as you say it) because it will not harm your hard disk.
Three particulars that I found out with linux, (1) Very fast download from the Internet than Windows, (2) Almost (about 3 clicks), you are connected in Internet, without any IP configurations, (3) External (cd,usb,hd) are by default unmounted. Which means, it won't put anything until you mounted it.
Linux is fast catching up. As you can see when you search for web hosting, most are already on Linux platforms...

Linux is considered to be much more stable and secure compared to Windows.
I use Linux most of the time, but still dual-boot into Windows sometimes. Also use FreeBSD some time too which is UNIX.
If your interested in Linux then check out Gentoo and SuSe. Both are great distro's.
Linux is just as compatible as Windows. The bluetooth support is really growing.
If you need an application and cannot find one like it in Linux then most likely you can get it to run under WINE.
EDIT//
@Rose D
There are viruii out for Linux, just no where near the amount that are out for windows manchine. Last time I checked the total was just under 80.

I use Windows XP on my laptop (Centrino), it's fairly new and I've had no end of trouble with Linux and wireless. I asked them for Linux when I ordered it but there was the usual Windows tie in "You can't have it without Windows (and no end of other garbage) pre-installed"
Ubuntu Linux on my PC (Pentium 3) simply because I prefer it to Windows. It's more stable, there's more "techie" fun to be had playing with the internals and all the software you could want is available for free.
Try it yourself, Linux is more fun.

I have both. I use Windows for video work and Linux for practically everything else. There are more commercial apps that run on Windows, but Linux is better for programming and web surfing/email because there are no viruses or spyware for it. Linux is also free, which is nice.
If you're interested in learning more about Linux, try checking out http://www.linux.org/ and http://www.ubuntu.com/

"Trailers"? You mean like movie trailers?
Seriously, if screenshots and demos are how you usually judge your software, then Linux is not for you. Stick with windows, you'll be better off.
