YES. Piercings always have a risk of infection! A local infection could possibly become a systemic infection, could cross the placental barrier and thereby affecting the unborn child.

Tell your friend that if she doesn't want to complicate her pregnancy, then skip the piercing until after she gives birth.

I mean, come on, she only has roughly a month to wait.

Many women want to do drastic things to their appearance when pregnant -- the cut your hair or color it thing when you are pregnant is passe and many regret it later. I would advise that she not do anything that might endanger her baby or herself and the likelihood of infection of her tongue is small but still there.

If she really wants it, she can wait until after the baby and nursing is over (if she chooses to nurse). It's only a little while longer. Encourage her that she is beautiful the way she is and there is nothing she needs to change about herself. Many times a woman feels unattractive when she's pregnant and this is the underlying cause of wanting to change their appearance.

Let her know that there are millions of people who think a woman is the most beautiful when they are pregnant.

OMG, it's very dangerous! Anything she does right now that risks an infection can not only harm her but will harm the baby.

Just advise her to wait until after the baby is born, or if she is nursing, until she is done with that.

Very much so! There is a very high risk of infection, she can only take tylenol for the pain and swelling, and if she DOES get an infection...guess who else is going to get it. Tell your friend that shes almost through this pregnancy, and considering the risks to her child, she would be best to wait the extra month!

Like stated before, it is not dangerous, UNLESS she gets it pierced wrong and it becomes infected. If the infection is not treated, it could go through her body and get to the child. Just to be safe, don't let her do it. Why would she need one anyway?

I totally do not understand why anyone wants to pierce their tongue-----that is just so gross.

yes, she needs to wait until after the baby is born. There is too much bacteria and it would be stupid to risk it with a child in utero.

Yes, it's probably not a good idea. Tell her to wait another month or two.
