America is the land of equal opportunity, not equality... There's the rub... That should mean that hard work, intelligence, initiative, and perseverance are rewarded. The question is... Is there really equal opportunity? That answer, I'm sorry to say, is still no. All you have to do is look at the inequalities of our public schools to confirm the answer to that.

And let's really look at what makes people wealthy. Is it really intelligence? Bill Gates is not really any smarter or more inventive than many other computer professionals. He was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time and smart enough to take advantage of it when it happened. And if we're talking about the idea that intelligence and hard work are all it takes to be rich, then how do we reconcile the salaries of professional sports figures and teachers. On average, sports pro's work no harder and are no more dedicated nor smarter than teachers. It is a fluke of the market that rewards them, not personal attributes.

So if you're looking for fairness and equality, don't look to the job market. It's just not there. Contribution to society, intelligence and hard work are not necessarily equated to being well off economically.

We're all benefited as well in varying degrees to the contributions people make and grow rich off of. Can you think of a world without computers and the Internet? Because Bill Gates and others were so integral to the computer revolution, they have been very well compensated. And everyone's lives are better as a result.

That is capitalism. If everyone were required to make the same amount it would be socialism (which doesn't work).
