Tom Skerritt appeared in a number of shows as a guest star, but the only T.V. series he did was Picket Fences, not 70's-80's tho'. The show aired from 1992-1996. {One of my faves.on T.V in the 90's.}
The main characters were as follows:
Lauren Holly--Deputy Maxine"Max" Stewart. She later married Jim Carey in 1996, but they divorced a yr. later due to conflicting schedules, so they said. She is now on NCIS(Naval Criminal Investigative Services) as NCIS director Jenny Sheppard.{She joined in 2005-2006 season--hope she stays on, as she dosn't refrain from telling Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs or any bureauratic honcho what she feels is the correctic solution to whatever their investigating, be it a murder investigation or a terroist plot exposed by NCIS.{P.S. She & Jethro had a relationship while on an assignment together before she became director, but that dosn't stop her from reading him the riot when she deems it necessary.)
Kathy Baker--Dr. Jill Brock.She has appeared in many T.V. series as a guest star also including Nip/Tuck, Monk,Touched by an angel & Ally McBeal just to name a few.
Fyvush Finkel--Douglas Wambaugh(The lawyer--a real fun guy on the show. Courtroom antics were halirous.}
Ray Walston--Judge Henry Bone:{ Born>Dec/02/1914> Died> Jan./01/2001 from Lupus a disease in which the body's imune system attacks it's own tissues as if they were foreign substances thus causing pain in kidneys,heart, lungs & blood cells which eventually fails causing death in severe cases.( R./Walston was really a great actor & may he be pain free whereever he is right now.++++{Rest IN PEACE DEARHEART}

I don't know, but I like him. Wasn't he in 'Picket Fences' with Kathy Baker? But I don't think it was the 70-80 period.
