I've tried several plug-in kind air fresheners (common brands from supermarkets), but their smell is too overwhelming and not pleasant. I'd like my house have a hint of a very subtle, floral-like scent, well, maybe the kind they use in good department stores or so. What products and brands would you recommend?

I like a clean smelling fragrance in my house.

I clean with plain old fashioned white vinegar. Put some in a spray bottle for spray cleaning, dump some into the toilet along with some baking soda for fizzies, use diluted with water in a spray bottle for windows & mirrors, and straight vinegar on the floors. The vinegar odor dissipates quickly & leaves the house smelling clean.

Also, I put white vinegar in a small bowl or jar and sit around the rooms as a room deoderant. Works like a charm.'

A Clean house is the basis of making your environment smell clean.
Put yourself on a cleaning schedule for the following:

BATHROOM(s): Wipe down the toilet, sink shower and tub everyday. Clorox Wipes are good for this. Once a week , deep clean the bathroom...scrub out the shower and tub, toilet (especially the base where it meets the floor) Clean the floor, sink and fixtures. Wash down the walls with Dawn, mixed with water and a floral essential oil added.

KITCHEN: Always keep your trash cans clean! This is one of the worst culprits for odor in a house. Leave no dirty dishes (ever) as bacteria forms and causes a bad odor. Wipe down your countertops after each use. Wash the floor avery 3 days and once a month use the same mixture on your cabinetry and walls that you used in the bathroom

BEDROOM: If you have curtains, vacuum them once a week and use Febreeze. Bedding should be changed weekly and dried in the sun if possible. Put your Coverlet and blankets outside on a line weekly with Febreeze sprayed on them. Vacuum every few days using Febreeze on the carpet.

Generally, open ALL your windows daily (if you can) in the early morning. Never keep dirty laundry around and if you are a smoker....smoke outside.

It may seem time consuming but isn't it worth it to improve your environment?

I've found the old, solid, cone style Renuzit ones work the best. I use Super Odor Killer next to the litter box, Tropical Melon in both bathrooms, Raspberry Fields in the basement, and Apple Cinammon in the kitchen. I really don't like floral scents so I go for the fruity/earthy ones.

1. check the natural ventilation system of the house. there must be a good circulation of air. kitchen smoke should be contained only in the kitchen.
2. if the house is closed, don't smoke. cigarette smell works like an air freshener.
3. soiled carpets? wet floor? etc. if you have one of these or the like, no air freshener will solve this.

it's like a weed - it will grow again unless you pull out the root. good luck.

Place sprigs of fresh rosemary in your drawers and rose petals or violet petal in your bedroom and lounge. Grow some plants indoors that smell nice such as lavender. Natural is good and will give you that subtle fragrance.

Clean with Fabuloso brand cleaner. It smells fresh and not overwhelming. I also use Febreeze. It takes away odors and just leaves a subtle scent.

The best air freshener is fresh air. Open your windows and quit it with the pure-fumes.
