grunge music?

i dont really understand how people like grunge music when they dont sing they "growl" and it makes you want to give the guy a cough drop or something. Can someone give me a good answer why its good music?

Im a big fan of grunge music. The whole point of it is to be angry, depressed, and angry. The raspy vocals is just an extension of that anger. However, there is plenty of softer grunge music like that of Pearl Jam or Stone Temple Pilots.

Some say it's because of low self esteem. Some people listen to it because they can't express what they feel and the music helps. Others say it's an outlet for existential anger.

are you talking about grunge or grindcore? there's a big difference, but much of the grunge genre isn't screamy/growling like you say it is.

The lyrics are real meaningful. Kurt Cobain is one of the best songwriters who has ever lived in my opinion. Nirvana, Soundgarden, Bush, Smashing Pumpkins, all of their songs have a lot of meaning.

Because it's nothing like vacuous, slick, overproduced teeny-bopper pop. Anything diametrically opposed to boy bands is a good thing.

It reminds me of garage bands. The lyrics are usually from the heart - though mostly depressing - it speaks of the way we feel alot of the time.

I guess because through their type of music, they can express anger. So I'm guessing that it's a way of venting.
