Just an observation after a work trip up North from a Southerner on the Southcoast.

K, we talking England. I narrow Southerners down to roughly about north of Nottinghamshire.
It's about how people come over to strangers. Not how self-satisfied they are.

Should have been south of Nottinghamshire. Oops.

I think that 'miserable' has confused Southerners. I am a Midlander. I find it very clear that if I travel north the people are far more friendly and happy to interact. You go south and no one wants to make eye contact. If you strike up a conversation with a shop assistant you are looked at like you are a pervert!!! So southerners far more insular and less friendly to people they do not know.

I'm a Southerner. I'm not miserable. Just because you met a few people from down here doesn't mean everybody you met was the majority. I don't make sweeping generalizations about the North , you don't make them about the South. Common courtesy.
Oh and somebody said we lost the Revolutionary War up there. We lost the War Between the States. The CIVIL WAR If we lost the Revolutionary War we wouldn't be a Country that was the war against England for our Independence. All of us fought that one together sweetheart.

UH excuse me but dont compare a whole section of the country (south) by who you met. That is totally unfair. I have been up north and met some VERY rude people. Therefore by your rules I should say that ALL people that live there are rude. I am a southerner and not miserable at all.

What a RANT! Your not attempting "to start a north vs south debate" my ar*e! you have in simple terms used 7 paragraphs slagging off northerners! Are you a northerner that is going for pints down the pub, if not you have not got any thought what we communicate approximately. i'm a born and bred Geordie and that i could not care much less approximately this meant divide. the only element that i'm getting aggravated approximately is how each and all of the stable centers and money gets pumped into London extremely than unfold it around the country different than that there is not something to moan approximately. have been given extra suited issues to be afflicted approximately than slagging off and taking the p*ss out of southerners!

I'm a northerner but I have lived in the South (London) for over ten years and I have found a difference. I think the real demarcation is London and the rest of the country. It could be my imagination but outside London people tend to look happier when you're out and about and strangers are more likely to speak to you just to say hello and pass the time - at bus stops, in shops etc. I have made friends, of course, in London and find people to be just as friendly when they get to know you.
I know this is a generalisation, but I do find many native Londoners to be very parochial and not at all knowledgeable or interested in what's going on outside London.

I love when I go to N.C to visit relatives everyone is so much slower and I haven't seen any miserable. Drive thru Providence, RI or Boston, Ma tell me how nice they are up here !

Too many people down south.
People in south are cash rich but time poor.
People in north work to live not live to work.
Quality of life is more important to some than
earning money.
