How would a jeweler be able to determine a fake jewel from a real one?

A certified jeweler is trained in spotting the "fake" versions of the real thing. The color, clarity, hardness, etc all factor into this process. On the outside though, most people cant tell the difference between a GOOD CZ and a Diamond.

well real ones are kept put away in a case locked up or very close to the clerk/worker and if you were to rub a real diamond against glass it will scratch the glass but a fake one wont and you can tell by the way it shines and the color. hope this helps and you can also go to a jeweler and ask

don't know about jewelers...do know, that if the diamond cuts glass it's real...with gold, I usually just bite it...if it leaves a tooth mark...well than it's fake...I'm almost positive there are better methods to test..

Some you can't tell by the appearance. But a jewler can tell it's value and standard.
