I have skype, and I like to use my microphone. my old microphone was headphones plugged in to the mic. jack. but now i have a real one. Both caused minimal static, that eventually got on peoples nerves. is there something wrong with the jack, or is there a way i can adjust the mic's setting somehow? please let me know.

Two most common causes of 'static' are:
1. Dirty plug / jack...wipe plug with aolcohol and while wet put it in and out of the jack to help clean the inside of the jack.
2. Broken wire in mic cord, ususlly at either end where it bends a lot. (just comming out of the mic or where it comes out of the plug) You can check this by twisting / moving the wire as you talk. If you seem to be controllin the 'static' the wire must be broken.
Depends on the brand of mic if this can be fixed or not.
