actually yes, but usually only if u included the option when u either financed or refinanced your mortgage.

Often though its only for a certain number of months.

No. You might be able to get a shorter term moratorium on your payments, but a year is too long a period.

It depends who you are paying your mortgage to.some banks allow you to freeze your mortgage
