I found out that singers like Beyonce write their own songs but what does this mean precisely? Does it mean they write the words or do they write all of the music for the song? BEcause I would imagine it'd be very difficult to write all the instrumental parts and stuff like that all by themselves - I thought they just got professionals to do that with them.

Also, I just heard that Beyonce wrote like 22 songs whilst she was on holiday?!?!? I really really do doubt that she writes the actual music for the songs ! And, do singers get paid more if they write their own songs??

Songwriters make more than the actual singers because everytime the song gets airplay, some money is paid to the singer $$$ really begins to add up! Beyonce probably did write the music and the lyrics, or she wrote the lyrics and had an idea of how she wanted the tune to go so a producer adds the music.

There are twenty thousand possible answers to this question but I'll try to answer it to the best of my ability. SOME singers write their own songs (lyrically) and some actually write, compose and produce their own songs (everything else). However, there are some singers that "co" write the songs. In those cases they maybe in the room with the writer coming up with a hook or verse but they only get partial credit for the lyrics. Most artists still grab producers to help out but you have others who can do all the work by themselves. In order to find out if your favorite artist wrote his/her/their songs check out the cover of the CD and look under the credits for the song. Hope this helps!! :)

P.S. I don't think singers get paid more for writing their own songs. But they do get the feeling that the song that's out is their own personal testimony!

No,! only if they are really talented.
Most of them write ideas for a song, or verses, o some poetry, (well, what they think may be poetry), go back with their producers, whose job is to hire musical producers and directors, they put a group or band together, that is; if they do not have it already, and record the song,
Everyone of them put their efforts forward hoping the singer has a hit song, so everyone makes a lot of money....to start the whole process again, ufffffffffffff....

I think they just write the words and make up some beats or something but other than that they pay people to be creative for the rest of the song. Writing songs is a lot different than composing music for songs.

Writing songs can mean just lyrics or both tune and lyrics, sometimes even the arrangement. It depends on the singer. Dolly Parton has written many songs for herself, including both lyrics and tunes. And yes, singers receive more money if the write their own material because they get royalties for both their performance and that part of royalties that go to the writer.

Some artist write their own songs and others get some help. And i think "write a song" just mean the text, the lyrics not with all the instrumental part.

The artist will most likely save money when they write their own songs-- they won't be paying a songwriter to write them. The down side is if they don't have the talent to write GOOD songs, then it won't matter anyway; the record will flop.

Some do - and some write the words and the music. Billy Joel, Elton John, Barry Manilow and Burt Bacharach write a huge amount of their own stuff.
OK, you're going Billy who?
Go ask your mom.
