For You: couple of comfortable pajamas, (for after the delivery) unless you want to be in the hospital's weird cloth they give you. Underwear, (nursing bra preferably). personal hygiene items (the hospital provides shampoo and stuff, but I prefer my own). a barely showing pregnancy pants for the homecoming, ( you wont fit in your prepregnancy pants just yet), comfortable shoes and sucks. camera for pics and/or camcorder. calm and relaxing music CD. and whatever else you can think of that you might need.
For the baby: for my son I brought to the hospital my own little sleep-suits, several of them, my son was a peeing a lot and I had to change outfits several times a day,( I don't like the blanket they wrap them on) I also brought my own baby hats, a little brush or comb, for me a Swaddle me blanket is a must have, since newborns like to be all bundle up and warm, I brought one with me and even the nurses were impressed on how easy those blankets are to make the baby a burrito and keep them warm. and a car seat, they wont let you take the baby out without one. and like I said before. whatever else you think you might need.
Good luck!

Depending on the time of year, you need the following for the baby: Pj's with the covers for the little hands (baby nails are sharp so this protects them from scratching the delicate skin on their face), booties, and a hat. If it is chilly, a sweater or a blanket. The day you go home from the hospital, you need an infant car seat. Most hospitals give you a gift pack of coupons plus some diapers, a receiving blanket, samples of formula, baby soap and lotion, etc. It's best to pack the baby's bag a few weeks before your due date so you are not rushing around looking for the items to pack the day you go to the hospital.
You need a comfortable robe and a pair of slippers with no backs that you can slip on your feet. You should bring a brush, toothbrush, a book or magazine to read for the down times during labor, a CD player with some of your favorite CD's that you find relaxing, a tennis ball for back spasms, a camera to take the first picture of the baby, and your husband. Pack a comfortable outfit to wear home in your suitcase.

First of all, you might want to bring your essentials, like a toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo (cause they usually only provide bar soap), socks or slippers, extra pajamas or night gown unless you prefer the lovely hospital gowns, extra panties, hairbrush, etc. For the baby, you want to bring an outfit to take the baby home in, maybe a stuffed animal, blanket for the trip home, and make sure you have your car seat, diaper bag, etc in the car when you are released. The hospital should provide the diapers, recieving blankets, baby wash, and wipes while you are there. For the labor, you might want something comforting, like a soothing cd or book...something to do between contractions to ease your mind, although it will be a pretty painful time anyway and you will probably already be preoccupied. Good luck and I hope my advice helped!

I brought a book, a lot of down time. But must need stuff- extra underwear, nursing bra if you plan on breastfeeding if not a tight sports bra so that you don't leak too much. Calling card of cell phone to call everyone, a camera, camcorder. Things for the baby... Car seat- the hospital will not let you go home without an approved car seat, diapers, wipes, pacifier, bottles, a breast pump if you are breast feeding, and an outfit to bring the baby home in... Good luck.

your favorite pillow. extra underwear and extra pair of clothes besides the ones that you came in with. carseat in the car.
hospital provides diapers and formula. and they teach you how to breast feed. and most hospitals give you a breast pump for free. check with your hospital. and they will be more than willing to give you a list. and tell you how they will assist you when the time comes.
