Seriously, don't fret about it. Are you coming to BC on a permanent basis or on a vacation? If it's permanent, your first concern will be finding a place to live. There are youth hostels where you can stay while you do that. And of course, you will be looking for a job once you get here.
If you're coming on vacation, make up an itinerary, and let someone know where you will be going. BC is a huge province. If you're planning to travel around, it can be a great adventure, but do keep in touch with someone. There are internet cafes in almost every town in BC, so you can let someone back home know where you are each day.
Also -- when some people travel, they insist on taking wads of cash with them. Bad move! That's an invitation to some of the low lifes to relieve you of as much of it as they can. Keep only a few dollars in your wallet for your daily expenses, and take money out at ATMs as you need it.
Seriously, I truly hope you enjoy your stay in BC -- however long it may be. September is one of the prettiest months of all here, with the leaves changing colour, and in October, with any luck, there will be an early snowfall on the local hills and you can almost feel the excitement in the air as the ski season draws near.

You are only young once! This is the time for an adventure and to come across situations which will be foreign to you....Go for it! Just watch ever penny you spend so you wont be completely broke when you get here....Canada is a huge country and you should take this chance to see your country.

Do what ever you feel like doing, life is meant for taking risks once in a while, just make sure you have the funds so you don't end up being a bum on the street.

I think Old Lady has got it covered. Don't carry much Cash and have a good healthy balance in your bank account. You don't want to be stranded. If you are on Vacation - go to Victoria.

B.C. is a good safe start, different but not too different. Travelling is a great way to learn, and you don't stay alone anywhere for long unless you want to.
