I am not sure anyone can legally make you work any hours!
Some by contract or policy, have a max! Usually it is 12, and in some emergencies, nurses have worked 16, though I wouldn't want them taking care of me!
By law they must give you a 15 minute break per 4 hours worked!

It depends on the job. Once I was on call and I worked 19 hours. Great Paycheck, but it was tough getting out of bed the next day. The Military pays you for 24/7, so they can work you as much as the mission calls for.

depends on the job
Police officers, correctional officers, military and others can be made to work 24 in emergancy situations.
I had to do 36 straight hours right after 9/11

If you are working as non skilled labor, 24. if you work in a profession that has limits like truck drivers, pilots and other fields where being alert is a requirement then different occupations have different rules.

Hmmm, not sure, may depend state to state, but my husband works 48 hours in a row at least once a week.

Depends on your State's Guidelines. I'd say the max would be 16hrs no matter where you live. Some States mandate less.

generally there is no limit, unless specsifed in a union contract.
but you must be allowed a 20 min break every 6 hours.
