EMO originally started as a short form of emotionally charged music that is similar to punk. It has now come to represent overly emotion attentions seeking people, especially teens, who are caught up in the drama of their own lives.

I bet it's not as good R&M (rythm and Blues), but probably a kind of blues. If they mean every kind of emotion then its just another kind of music.
