I have an old typewriter in a carying case that has a musty smell I can't get out .

I would recommend wiping the inside of the case and outside of the typewriter with a lightly damp cloth with a bleach and water mixture. Just dampen the rag enough so it doesn't leak into an area of the typewriter that may damage it. Also if you have a canister of compressed air , the type used to dust your computer keyboard you may try that on the inside of the typewriter prior to the cleaning. Good luck it should do the trick.

if it is the carrying case, take a mild solution of baking soda and water and scrub the inside of the case, set out in the sun to "bake" and then take a wet sponge to rinse out. set the case back out in the sun to bake dry.

clean with and soak in vinegar- guaranteed to work
