This is the "Me" generation, everyone is an individual these days. We're losing touch with the traditional community and moving our communities to the internet. Unfortunately the internet is populated with arrogant elitists and ignorant kids.

I think it's cruel for websites to make meeting someone big business. It's not a gauranteed thing, and they're making people pay money to think they're getting true companionship.
I'm not saying that it can't work, but I think it's mean to think that someone can do the work of meeting someone for you.
That's half the fun is meeting people (school, work, church, bars, volunteer organizations, etc.) you aren't looking for!!
Anyway, getting off my soapbox now. Yes, it's very shocking to think that people are an 'island'. :)

Wow, that's a lot of people. I think many are lonely because their expectations are too high. And others are suffering from low self esteem. And still others are products of their environment and that's caused them to not "hook" up with others. I went with my immediate friends and found my wonderful husband. We're very happy, so I wish everybody out there would find their "soulmate" or just somebody they can't live without.

Yep, here I sit. I want to go backpacking, but I don't want to go alone, but I'll be just as alone for the next few days, and when the family returns I'll be just as alone and have not gone backpacking. This isn't life, this is spinning, what a waste.

Is it shocking? I think it depends on where you are. But in this country (USA) it is a booming business to try and hook people up! Lonliness is running rampant here at least.

But with the USA hitting 300,000,000 in October, isn't it fantastic that we have more still wild land area than Africa?

It is sad, but the price we pay, since we now live it a world where we don't have to settle anymore. more lonely people but few (you would think) unhappy relationships.

We make ourselves lonely. Unfortunately day by day what matters more is what you have and not who you are.
