You can network both computers through a router so that both computers can use the internet at the same time. You'll need CAT5 cable for each computer to the router, and a cable from the router to the modem. (Make sure that you get straight CAT5 cables and not cross-over cables. They are used to connect two computers directly together.)

On the back of the router you'll easily identify which port to use for the modem cable it will be marked ADSL if you're with BT or X/DSL if you're with a cable company.

You can connect either of the computers to whichever free ports you have available.

Make sure that both computers are switched on.

If you're using Windows XP you click on Start and open up Control Panel.

In the top left hand corner of the window that opens click on Classic View, then double-click on Network Setup Wizard. This will guide you through the process of setting up your network.

When you've finished on the first computer you'll be asked whether you wish to make a create a Network Setup Disk, use a Network Setup Disk you already have, use your Windows XP CD
or just finish the wizard. My advice, if you have a Windows XP CD is to choose that option. There's no messing about.

You'll need to take the Windows CD to the next computer in the network and install it into the CD-ROM drive. When it boots up click on Perform Additional Tasks, and then Set up a home or small office network. Again, you'll be guided through what you need to do.

If you need any further help, just send me an email and I'll see if we can't sort it between us.

It is possible, Firstly you will need a wired hub as both pc's have wired adapters, these hubs are easily purchasable from online auctions (eg ebay) for around £20-£25, everything included is everything you will need, you install the software connect the wires and the hub will get the two pc's talking to each other, the included software will allow both pc's on the internet at the same time using the same connection, If you need any more assistance jus email me, hope this helps. :)

You have to have both computers on a seperate connection into the router. A hub is just a switch and will not supply both computers with a seperate IP address. If you have 2 slots open on your router, bypass the hub completely and just plug both of the computers into the router. It won't work trying to split a connection with a hub.
