the handle of the sword looks like puter wrapped with leather bands.i dug it up when looking for arrow heads about 20 years ago,in texas by the sabine river

hmm - relic of the Mexican War, perhaps? The Spanish inscription would point to that. I.m surprised it's in good enough shape to read an inscription if you dug it up. You should take a pic and post a link - I'd like to see it.
But seriously - take it to a historic society or a museum and have them look at it. You may have a museum piece.

Unless there is a blacksmiths mark or a crest on it, I don't think you'd be able to find the person who made it. However, you can take it to either a museum curator or a sword enthusiest/history buff and ask them about it.

My guess would be it's either Spanish, French or some other form of European sword, since Texas is an area where a lot of those groups traversed.
