Well, you sure are opening yourself to possible multiple addictions. Benzodiazepams (xanax) don't mix well with alcohol. THINK THINK THINK! Buspirone ( BuSpar ) is an Antianxiety agent, used primarily for relief of mild to moderate anxiety and nervous tension. Buspirone ( BuSpar ) may be useful in reducing alcohol craving.

Alcohol interferes with the asborption of any drugs you may be taking. If your doctor doesn't recommend it, then why take the risk? When a doctor puts you on a prescription, it usually means you have some medical condition (in your case, I'm guessing depression or anxiety or both?) that requires following your doctors suggestions and orders. I could go into this further, but if you are determined to drink, there isn't much anyone can say to change your mind. You have to decide for yourself what the right thing is...be mature and refrain from it, or ignore his advice and do what you want.
