you haven't really given us enough information here, but I'll answer as best I can. If you feel remorseful, even frightened by what happened then it's likely you simply snapped. All people have invisible lines over which their fight or flee instinct kicks in. You fought.
Now, I do think you need to understand what "buttons" lead to your breaking point - and make that clear to people who know and care about you. If you don't use this situation to avoid having it repeat in the future, then I have little sympathy for you.
I would also seriously consider looking into counselling for yourself (and the woman if she's still with you) so you can learn to communicate more positively - and in ways you both understand.
Your future behavior is in YOUR hands, not ours.

Yes you are. What is wrong with you? What were you thing? You should never i mean never hit a woman. No matter what she said or did.You should be man enough to walk away from her, cool off,or leave for the day or for the night. She might have pushed your buttons but you had the choice of what to do when she pushed them. You made the wrong choice. You also make the choice of whether you are going to be an abuser or not.Every time she push a button and you react like you did by hitting her or verbally abuse her,you are an abuser. You sound like you have an anger problem. You need to get help before it gets out of hand.Your anger problem will cause you to become a abuser much easier than if you had other outlets.Finding no other way to vent your anger will ensure that you become an abuser. The forever part will depend on whether you are willing to get help and admit that you have a problem. This can and will addiction unless you do something about it.If you continue this, you will go to jail, were they will abuse you as well. Most of them do not like Child abusers, rapists, and so called men who hit on women.Make your choice young man, only you can determine what your out come will be.

NO, you are not an abuser.
I know this sounds crass, but all some people understand is a slap in the face!
Sometimes...not all of the time, but sometimes...you have to go there.
I have never done anything like it in my life, but I can understand that some people are pushed into a corner and motivated to strike the first blow.
I'm a realist.
It's no different from putting the school's bully in his or her place.
Sometimes you have to rise-up and let people know you won't tolerate being bullied and needled.
I'm willing to bet you cash money that you'll never have to worry about her 'pushing your buttons' ever again!

particular, I remeber this all to nicely through fact it fairly is been an prolonged time through fact I even have been a youthful female, and sufferer blaming became very common. whilst i became growing to be up there became an particularly genuine perception that prostitutes can not get raped, and marital rape became in no way mentioned even nevertheless there have been probably rules, it became unprecedented then. as quickly as I worked as a probation officer I have been given to study comments from the early 80s and previous due 70s whilst each and all of the officers have been adult males and in simple terms like now there have been intercourse offenders, interior the comments that the officers used to jot down, they could describe 15 and sixteen 365 days previous ladies as promiscuous or sultry or foremost the guy directly to get the guy probation rather of detention center. the belief of intercourse criminal rehabilitation became non existent then and that i think of it rather is impossible to rehabiltate a intercourse criminal.

I dont care what she did to you, you never under any circumstances hit a girl. And the chances are that she will never forget that you hit her so you will always be an abuser to her.

You should of been a man and walked away. Just because she said something that ticked you off does not give you the right to hit her. You might want to see why you are getting so angry enough to hit her.

If you hit her once there's a chance you'll do it again, but not neccessarily with another woman - get out of the relationship and avoid the possibility.
