its cheap to live in them that why they live in those. They can't afford anything better. I doubt anyone would live in them if they had a choice.

You can own your own home, i.e., manufactured home, for less than most people pay for a small apartment. It may not be much, but it's yours, rather than a landlord's. So when you are ready to move on, you can sell it and get at least some of your money back. Try doing that with an apartment.
And in the nicer communities, you can own a REALLY nice manufactured home, 2000+ square feet and have access to a clubhouse, pool, marina, golf course, and other amenities for less than many apartments. So, yeah, there are advantages. While the stigma is sometimes deserved, often it is not.
To your question about why they are inexpensive...it's because they are premade rather than site built. The "stigma" really only has to do with the way trailer parks USED to be. While there are certainly still the homes on blocks in overgrown yards with broken down cars in front...that is more the exception now than the rule. Manufactured home communities are every bit as cared for and pleasant to live in as a site built home. When we lived in a community 8+ years ago, we had retired physicians, lawyers, teachers, military officers, etc., many with six figure retirement incomes for neighbors.

i'm no longer a liberal yet i love your question. I moved to lengthy island from Virginia and it type of feels those human beings up right here frequently Liberal Democrats trust all that stay in the South are rednecks or trailer trash and picture we are racist. it really is so a ways from the reality. human beings that stay in Trailers stay there pretty because it really is what they could arise with the money for. also they stay there because for a number of generations again it really is the position their households have lived and that is what they comprehend. it isn't some thing to experience embarrassment about, they stay, artwork and elevate their households. i wager the human beings up right here have not in any respect considered or heard of the inner city, an area the position police concern to pass. All i can say is united statesa. is made up of all type of human beings if it replaced into no longer for that blend of subculture and upbringing lets no longer be the u . s . a .. Given the alternative i ought to stay in the South the position there is sweet tea, grits and the smell of honeysuckle.

I live in a trailer on a little half-acre lot out in the country. Its quiet, peaceful and cheap. I work in a small restaurant because that is all the work that there is around. And I thank God everyday for that job. I can sit on my front porch at night and actually see the stars and watch the deer graze in my yard. Im very happy and people shouldnt judge other people by where they live. I live like a queen compared to some people in the "richest country in the world".

Some people have no choice as it is a cheaper form of accomodation and an alternative of living on the streets. Not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouths. I started out married life living in one. I am now in a better position where I own my own apartment outright (no mortgage). Not everyone is as fortunate as me. But there is certainly nothing wrong with living in a trailer, it is just the bl**dy mindedness of those more fortunate that have made trailer parks what they are today! Sorry, off my soapbox now.

Some people aren't as rich. I used to live in a trailer park because it was a lot cheaper than an appartment. The rich will always be snobby towards the lower class no matter where they live. If they don't have as much money they aren't as good.

We live in a singlewide in a beautiful park in a rural town. And it's a heck of a lot nicer here than in the city we moved from. I'll take peace and quiet in a trailer park over a 2-story asbestos-covered house in a crime-infested city anyday!!!!!

Some people are just too poor and yes, do live in yucky trailer parks like the ones people make fun of. But there are also trailer parks that are nicely kept cute places, like the one my grandparents live in. It's called an "adult community" and they're actually attractive little houses.
and please, people, stop attacking this poor girl! she's just asking a question, not trying to offend anyone....stop treating her like a ***** because she doesn't seem like one !!

I would understand it better if you lived in a state where natural disaters are a common occurance. but really some people cant afford anything better. Or they just dont want to. I grew up in a trailor park. they really arent as bad as some people say or think. But really money in america is an issue and my best bet its all they can afford. And no im not trailor trash lol it was a nice one really not your typical junky one you see on tv or in the ghetto.

For some people, it is a way to own a "home" and not have to answer to a landlord. As ridiculously expensive as the real estate is becoming in most parts of the US, mobile homes may become more and more popular and less stigmatized. People who are happy within themselves should not pay attention to condescension - it is beneath them.
