I bought quake 2 the other day, now when i start up my computer, it makes this little viZZZzzzz noise, then everything on my computer goes reallly slow or frezes for a minute or 2, i cant see why, my computer is built by me and i sisnt do anything whrong in there, and doom 3 runs just fine, it makes this noise every time a direx x or open GL object comes on screen, likebattlefield 2, and even an empty 3DS max scene, untill i uninstall it, even then it takes a week for it to wear off! here are my system specs:

1.5 Gb of RAM
450W power supply
80Gb IDE Samsung hard drive
320 Gb SATA Western Digital hard drive
ASUS "Kelut" motherboard (uncommon)
ATI Radeon X800 GTO from Sapphire Tech
Linksys WMP 54 G wireless B/G card
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ at 2.1 GHZ
Samsung DVD-ROM only dvd player
Philips DVD-RW (burns everything,cd's and DVD's)

Im not %100 sure, but i think its the power supply, the noise is comming from my SATA Hard drive, and is also made when i attach another drive.

It could be your power supply because those are alot of power hungry components and if that isnt a really good brand of power supply it might not be up to the job.

You can test it by unhooking some of them and running quake 4 again.

Like unhook whatever optical drives you can run quake4 without and whatever hard drive is not your C drive. Then try it.

People always skimp on the power supply but a lame power supply will cause you all kind of problems from rebooting to crashes, get a really good brand like PC power and cooling or Antec true power.

A good brand of power supply will work better then its rating but a generic might not even do what it claims it will.
