Officially, a prude is either a person who is very proper in conduct, behavior, speech, etc. or a person who is very concerned about propriety and decorum.
Nowadays, a prude is typically used to describe a person who is very shy of contact to others (not necessarily only the opposite gender, especially with the current situation in people's... taste...). It also refers to people who are shocked or unaccustomed to sexual things (either the performance of, or the talking of, etc.)
Urban Dictionary has a very simple and crude answer (it is not very accurate, but it fits the general idea). The definition of a prude is "a guy or girl who's afraid to do anything sexual or kinda shy around the opposite sex, but not a fag or a lesbo." Although the terms can be somewhat ambiguous, the general idea fits the current idea of a prude in society.
