Why do people constantly wind my baby, as soon as she cries they insist on the fact she has wind!?!

My baby is 3 months old and has no difficulty with wind, she now moves her body into positions to get it up herself, yet people still wind her, which she hates and drives me mad. Do people not realise babies also cry for other reason apart from wind!

Can anyone else relate to this and how have you handled it?

I'm guessing that you mean the burp her, and think she has gas?

My son didn't need it at that age either, but people did it anyway. It didn't bother him too much, but what he really hated was when they would take the bottle away after every ounce and burp him. It took me a long time to convince everyone to just let the baby drink his bottle before he cries himself hoarse.

Everyone who has already had children thinks that they know best because they've already done it, and other people think they know best because they've read some books or babysat once or twice, but every baby is different, and eventually, if you just keep telling them, they'll get it.

It's automatic. As soon as I pick a small baby up, I automatically put it up to my shoulder and rub it's back. I'm not sure why, because mine never particularly had a problem with wind. As soon as a baby lifts it's knees up, that's wind as well. And any form of crying, especially if the legs are lifted - must be wind.

I think it may just be an excuse to hold your baby, which is probably a sign it is quite a sweetie.

PS don't worry about the American responses - they're American. If they've never heard of it in Tagahoochy or somewhere it doesn't exist.

I can't say that anyone did this constantly with my baby, but if they had done, I would tell them that you don't want her handled quite as much, and tell them what you told us. It's okay to insist that people don't try to burp your baby, you know what is best for her, and these other people are only trying to be helpful; they probably don't realise that they are upsetting you. Please talk to them, and don't bottle this resentment up inside because that will lead to you hating people coming anywhere near your baby, and they'll pick up on your unresolved hostility.
I hope that you feel more able to cope with their 'helpful' behaviour soon.
Good luck for the future!

'Wind' sounds like a European term for colic or gas. So if they 'wind' your baby, they are probably patting her on the back and rocking her. All to common a reaction to crying. It can spoil the baby as well. She will grow to expect this whenever she cries.
Just tell them she does not need it. Insist if they are the pushy type. She is all yours, after all.

I'm not sure you phrased your question correctly because I have no idea what the heck you mean by "wind." Is she farting alot?? LOL

And as for other people doing things to your baby you don't like, put your foot down. It's is YOUR child, after all. That's the funnest part of becoming a parent (or at least for me it was) -- becoming the B**** that no one wants to cross. LOL Remind them that they don't want to come between the mother bear and her cub, if you know what I mean.

My mother was the same, she spent so much time rubbing and patting my daughters back, that all her knitted jackets went bobally.

I didn't feel able to say anything to my mother at the time, so I'd put up with it when I was there, and do my own thing when I went home.

If it bothers you that much, you will have to tell/ask them to stop.

..and for the insensetive people here... maybe your are American and don't understand the term bringing up wind... maybe you understand passing gas or burping?

I felt my toddler at 14 weeks (doctor stated it change into the area of the placenta that allowed me to sense him that early.) I have continually been VERY in track with my body. I knew i change into pregnant 3 days when I had sex! So... even if. i ought to sense the kicking at about 17/18 weeks although. My mom felt him outdoors at 20 weeks and also you should visibly see the kicking at that aspect. He change into an fairly lively toddler from the start! he's 10 months now and merely as lively as he change into interior! If no more beneficial so. help! Hahahaha.

What is "wind" a baby?... does it have a big key sticking out of the back and people have to 'wind' it?

I remember that, it really irritated me too. It's like they know what's going on with the baby better than the Mother. Grrrr. I just thanked them for the comment and went about my business to console my daughter.
