Step 1: Become overly obnoxious. (You *must* get this down. If not you'll just look like a bad goth.)
Step 2: Burn all your clothes and buy out Hot Topics. (Don't forget the wrist bands and hair gel, they're the most important part!)
Step 3: Make sure your hair covers at least one eye at all times. To help keep your hair where it is at, only bathe on the weekends.
Step 4: Proclaim bisexuality. It doesn't matter if you actually find girls attractive or not, you'll never actually date one.
Step 5: Buy a guitar and play it whenever an open opportunity comes. I suggest at lunch and during passing periods at school. When people ask you to play a song for them begin then stop after one stroke with "um, hold on, um..."
Step 6: When you hear someone complain about you, always end your mini-rant with "you just don't understand me!"
Optional: Bad poetry and butchered "original" song lyrics.

Damnnnnnnnnn my age must be really showing. What the hell is an Emo?
Never heard of it. Must be something that came out after my daughter stopped being a teenager.
Is this what I have to look forward to with my 6 yr old? If so then God please help me.

Honey, don't worry about what is popular now. A new thing will be "cool" in a year or two. Just be true to yourself. Wear whatever style you like and fix your hair how you think is neat.

umm.....it isn't just somthing you become.it is a way of life.if you are very emotional and have a reason for it then you are emo.you can't be both emo and prep.you seem like a prep to me.
