I am an insurance adjuster wh dealt with alot of Katrina claims via phone.
As someone said, if the insurance was paid to date, and it shows on your policy that it covers that exact address (some people get confused), you should be covered if it is determined the damage was from Katrina and it was due to wind (which was the case alot more than not). Some damage was flood..not covered.
Also, tell your insurance company if the house was occupied or not at the time of the hurricane, and if so, if there was a forced evacuation or not in your area.
Even withthis timing, you shouldn't have a problem. If the damage was minor (under $1500), they may not send an adjuster out unless you request it, so it might help you to get an estimate.
IF you already fixed it and did not take pictures of the damage, you might have a hard time.
Be VERY careful about the company you choose to fix it!!! make sure they are licensed, bonded and have workers comp in case their employee falls off the roof.
My experience is that the BBB realy doesn't mean anything. Ask for COPIES of their paperwork. check with neighbors or get references. You might also ask if they are having any trouble getting materials, which might impact the timing.
Another question is if they are going to use subcontractors or their own crew. If they use subcontractors, and don't pay them, YOU could be sued by the subcontractors for the $.
Also, if you did have a moderate or alot of damage, and didn't like the first adjuster's estimate, get your contractor to meet the second adjuster at the house.
write me if u have anymore questions. I am not an expert on construction itself, but will help if i can.
good luck
I think you'll be fine. sounds routine.

Yes, it should. It doesn't matter if the home is occupied or not, as long as you have insurance on it.
