I believe they do initially when they enter politics for the right reasons. Unfortunately it doesn't take long for the politics to overtake the passion. Even on a local level power and ambition corrupts and they cease to look for the best solution to a problem and assume they are the only solution. There should be no such thing as a career politician as it is this that promotes personal ambition bringing with it a disregard for the people they initially set out to represent.

Many politicians are not completely (if at all) honest. They say what people want to hear, not what they really feel, to get elected into whatever posistion. Very few politicians care about making the world a better place. If we had a larger third party, though, I believe this could be significantly changed.

I think many of them do. Others think that they have to do what's popular in order to get elected, then they'll do the real things that they think will be better for humankind. With the way they are dependent on special interest groups for campaign funding though, I don't see how they can truly act in the best interest of society as a whole.

You must understand politicians. They are a special breed of people who will sell their soul to be in charge of other peoples lives and are self important and the most important thing about them is that they are mad. Most of their decisions are wrong. They only make them to put people under their direct control. Eg wars. All politicians should be limited to 7 years on the job - Maximum!

I think that they actually start out that way. Eventually they need to be re-elected so they start to compromise their principles so they can stay in office. Many seem to do a fairly good job but some constituents do not realize that what is good for them is not good for everyone. Just like the proverb. Others focus on one issue only without considering the needs of others. Okay, I'll stop my rant now.

I think some do, but unfortunately the professional politician wants power and perks.
The Left/Right system is designed for us to focus on their differences rather than what is actually going on.

I think they start off all idealistic, wanting to do the right thing for humankind etc, and then gradually get corrupted by the system, having to suck up to the right people etc.

I doubt it, i feel the politicians that are in power are there because they have contacts and are corrupt. I dont believe there to be any genuine politician in a position of power and infulence.

Of course not. They do what-ever they think will keep them in power. They turn on each other like rabid dogs, when they suspect they might lose an election.A big advantage for them is the publics' lack of long-term memory.Once in power they treat people like dirt, until shortly before the next election, when they put the 'sweeteners' in their manifesto. All too often,we fall for it.

I would like to think that was true ,
BUT.........
unfortunately Only a very few politicians,
care a feather or a fig for humanity.
they care to stay in office ,
they care about money ,
they care for their promotion to higher office
but general humanity ,goes out of the window !
