carnie is part right,...for the "First 24 hours"ice
Since this was tuesday now it's ..."ice then heat"
20 minutes ice ...20 minutes heat,20 minutes ice...20 minutes heat
several dimes a day.
This is the best bet to get the repair underway on your ankle.
Each session should be minium of three cycles.
Rotate gently and with caution while in the last heat cycle to see what you have.
The best is two plastic tubs from the dollar store.
put ice and water in one,and water as "hot as you can stand it".
Start with cold and follow with heat, three cycles.Twice or more a day if possible.
You are going to curse my name at first,I am sorry but you may want to bite down on something.
This will work. You may tape your ankle for some extra
support before the game, but your ankle will be the best it is going to be.
I spent over twenty years in Martial Arts, much of it
"Full Contact" ........Take my word for it I know how to speed healing on an ankle for an event the following weekend.
Good luck, contact me if you have any questions.

As much as it sucks, you should probably just stay off of it for another week or so. I sprained my ankle about a year ago, and I just wrapped it and kept on playing sports, and it took 3 or 4 months to heal, as opposed to a month or so. Also, if you keep playing, you might twist or sprain it again, and that could seriously screw up your ankle. But, if you're set on going back to soccer, I say go with an ace bandage or two, and wrap it up as tight as you can without cutting off circulation. The less you move your ankle, the better.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Bind it in non-elastic tape, tight enough to be snug, but not tight enough to cut off the circulation. You may need to re-wrap it a few times to get it right. Ice it down as much as possible (if there is swelling present), or use a safe heat source like a heating pad (if there is no swelling present). Stay off of it as much as you can. Do not take pain killers...these can mask any repeated damage you may do to it.
On game day...wear a snug elastic bandage. Again not too tight...you need to maintain good circulation. Just before the game take a (coach approved) pain killer--you want to play as much as you are able, right? Have lots of ice and heat sources available at the bench, and USE them when you're not playing.
If the coach wants to pull you, let him. Do you plan on being able to play professionally? If so, you need to take care of your body, because once you start injuring it, it will go quickly downhill without proper care.

DESCRIPTION:
Ankle pain is most often due to an ankle sprain, which is an injury that causes a stretch or tear of one or more ligaments in the ankle joint. Ankle ligaments are probably the most sprained ligament in the body. Close to 26,000 people sprain their ankles every day. Although most ankle sprains occur on the outside part of the ankle, they can occur on the inside as well. An ankle twist is the most common sports injury to lead to ankle pain. In addition to ankle sprains and other injuries, ankle pain may also be caused by arthritis, gout, pseudogout and infection.
How does ankle pain develop?
The most common type of ankle sprain is an inversion injury, turning the ankle inward, injuring or tearing the ligaments on the lateral side of the ankle, usually the anterior talofibular and the tibiofibular ligaments. The inside of the ankle is held together by a group of ligaments called the deltoid ligament. This ligament is injured from turning the foot outward, as can happen when falling down stairs or mis-stepping. Once an ankle is sprained, the injury may take a few weeks to many months to fully heal. The injured ankle often remains a little weaker and less stable than the uninjured one.
What are the symptoms of ankle pain?
Symptoms of pain from a sprained ankle include mild aching to sudden pain, swelling, discoloration, inflammation, inability to move the ankle properly and pain even when no weight is put on the ankle. In mild cases, there may be a propensity for the ankle to continually turn inward.
Conventional medical treatments may help relieve the symptoms of ankle pain, but they do not address the root of the problem. By strengthening structural weaknesses in the body, as natural medicine treatments like Prolotherapy do, ankle pain may be alleviated permanently.
Discover why we believe that natural medicine treatments are the best way to treat ankle pain.
Treatment of Ankle Pain:
The Response of Modern Medicine
Everyone is familiar with the typical modern medical treatment routine for an ankle sprain, the most common cause of ankle pain: ice, elevation, wrapping with a bandage or wearing a brace and rest, i.e., staying off the ankle. This is also known as RICE treatment (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation), and is a common practice for most sports-related injuries. The problem with this treatment approach is that it decreases inflammation (inflammation heals!) at a time when the injured area needs it most, resulting, unfortunately, in decreased healing. In other words, it does nothing to repair the injured or weakened ligaments involved and, thus, does not alleviate the chronic pain that people with this condition experience. And while exercises designed to strengthen the muscles that support the ankle may be beneficial, they rarely resolve the chronic pain.
Hand-in-hand with the RICE treatment approach is another standard practice of modern medicine: injecting steroids or prescribing anti-inflammatory medications. However, in the long run, these treatments do more damage than good. Although cortisone shots and anti-inflammatory drugs have been shown to produce short-term pain benefit, both result in long-term loss of function and even more chronic pain by actually inhibiting the healing process of soft tissues and accelerating cartilage degeneration. Plus, long-term use of these drugs can lead to other sources of chronic pain, allergies and leaky gut syndrome.
When all else fails, patients who experience chronic ankle pain may be referred to a surgeon. Unfortunately, surgery often makes the problem worse. Surgeons will use x-ray technology as a diagnostic tool, which does not always properly diagnose the pain source.
The Natural Medicine Approach to Ankle Pain
A better approach is to strengthen the ligaments supporting the lateral ankle, the area most commonly sprained, with Prolotherapy. Chronic ankle sprains have been effectively eliminated with Prolotherapy treatments. If the sprain is the result of turning the ankle outward rather than inward, Prolotherapy treatments are applied to the deltoid ligament.
Chronic pain is most commonly due to cartilage deterioration, tendon weakness or ligament weakness or injury, as is the case with chronic ankle pain. The safest and most effective natural medicine treatment for repairing tendon, ligament and cartilage damage is Prolotherapy. In simple terms, Prolotherapy stimulates the body to repair painful areas. It does so by inducing a mild inflammatory reaction in the weakened ligaments and cartilage. Since the body heals by inflammation, Prolotherapy stimulates healing.
Prolotherapy offers the most curative results in treating chronic pain. It effectively eliminates pain because it attacks the source: the fibro-osseous junction, an area rich in sensory nerves. What’s more, the tissue strengthening and pain relief stimulated by Prolotherapy is permanent

Wear a rap durring practice. If it still hurts, dont over do it (but dont baby it either), if you put to much force on it for a long period of time, it has a chance of getting worse rather then better. Sence you plan on playing on it, try wiggling it around when your sitting and keep it warmed up, if it cools off it will get stiff and will be more likely to hurt you longer.
