Went to a court-ordered Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and I felt so overwhelmed. In fact, I was so overwhelmed by the AAers, that I sought emergency debriefing at the nearest hospital. All the "powerless" and "God" rhetoric truly made me sick!

The doctor gave me a bag of drugs!

Oh Jesus, Please save me and take me Home--Now!

Any AA or NA meetings I have been to (with family members) or heard of did not speak of God directly. It was always "My Higher Power". Some members would say "My Higher Power Who I call God.." or something similar but all of the official literature referred to a Higher Power. Maybe you should try a different group if you were offended by religious references. But you should certainly seek help if you have a problem. Good luck to you!

Make the team your bigger potential. Or genuinely everybody in AA who're improving sometime at a time. do not rigidity out over what others in AA say. no count how some years of sobriety they have, they have not got each and all of the solutions.

The higher power is not using God as an example your higher power can what ever or who ever you need it to be to get better.
The higher power is just a person place or thing.
you are the only one can choose what you want your higher power to be.it does not have to be God in these meetings.

There is "safety" in numbers. Try to find a family member or friend that will support your efforts to go with you.

Sad people like you get "court ordered" to get help!! You should just do your time in jail!! There is too many people who honestly need and want help at those meetings!!
