You can claim straight away but will only get paid after the extra month. Hope you find something else soon, good luck!

I'm not sure, but it may depend on your circumstances. You should be able to claim job seekers allowance straight away, but they will want to know about any savings you may have. If you have more than a certain amount in savings, this could jeopardise your entitlement. Next time you go to the job centre, ask about any penalties there may be that would prevent them paying any allowances. I must warn you though: the forms are very searching.
They will want to know EVERYTHING!! but they can be very helpful. I'm not sure that a months pay would seriously affect your benefit claim, so ask them, don't volunteer anything unless asked.

Contact the Social Security Dept IMMEDIATELY. Your claim starts from the time you 'phone them because the chances are you will have to wait for an appointment. Your extra month's salary will be taken into account unfortunately when it comes to starting your Job Seekers Allowance. But contact the good old DSS right away for an appointment to register. Time costs you money!!

Take all the papers that your former employer gave you, and go to the office as soon as possible. You need to get your claim in now. Even if you have to wait a month to receive anything back from them, at least all your paperwork will have been filed on time.

If the separation pay was not enough, the job seeker can seek assistance from the government while a job is not yet taken.

Make the claim for the first day you are NOT working, as it takes the fukwits at the job center months to sort anything out anyway.
