Am i better of one the dole or at work? In the UK, those who seem to be on benefits such as income support ,seem to better of then those of us sweating our guts of at work. on benefits u can get about £28 000 (i know it depends on indv circumstances) and you have little other expenses. if i earn my own living i have to pay, TAX, mortgage (as opposed to living in council houses)own medical and NHS precription charges, plus i have to pay for travel and food expenses at work, and as a lodoner thats not cheap, on top of that i have to pay the usual such as bills and other fees such as car and tv licence and child care costs etc. someone with experience of both, tell me is the dole better of? i am not talking about single mums cos i know its difficult for them, but whole familes on benefits a wife and husband. i am struggling a great deal and the government doesn't ever consider my outgoings in order to make oncessions for me when it come to paying tax. so what are my options?.

I understand what you are saying, I sometimes feel the same way. However at the end of the day we have dignity and self-respect and I dont mean that in a derogatory sense for the people who are looking hard for employment and are unable to find it. At least when you are working you are meeting people and have the opportunity to build friendships , better than sitting at home getting bored watching day time TV. Have you tried applying for family tax credit, give it a go it may help you out a lot. I am not too sure but I think they help you with your childcare fees also. Good Luck.

As you say it depends on personal circumstances. But it doesn't help knowing that a family with no skilled bread winner will get more on benefits than when working.
I know it is not a justification but why would a man get a job if he would have less money coming in by doing so. If employers paid more than the government paid in benefits it wouldn't be such a problem. Never heard of the poverty trap.

Firstly, lets get things straight...I am a divorcee with 2 small children and I work full time to make mine and my children's lives better.
I pay all my bills with NO help from my children's father as he won't pay CSA, I have been paying £290 per week in childcare costs during the school holidays for the privilege of working. I pay all the outgoings that you pay, (tax, NI contributions, etc etc..)
It doesn't matter whether I am a lone parent or part of a couple, I work to instill in my children a work ethic...that mummy doesn't have to sit at home dependant on state hand outs, that I contribute to the country's welfare pot, because (god forbid) one day I might need it to sustain me for a period in my life.
If you are fit enough to work, and can find a suitable job, then you should work. The system does seem weighted against workers...but I would rather struggle and hold my head up than vegetate in front of daytime TV, and see my children become lazy and workshy. (That's why I keep working even though it doesn't pay for me to do it)

Bob Dole is optimal - on the two counts. Republicans would desire to artwork on scientific coverage reform - it is going to ensue with them or without them. And Dold is optimal that "each and every so often human beings combat to in basic terms attempt against", and that's an rather stupid element to do for the clarification that it does not further anybody's hobbies. Bod Dole is a clever guy and has countless adventure.

Come to this country and see how much you make "on the dole"!
We pay the widows of our Iraqi Veterans $13,000 a year to raise their small children, when anyone knows you are lucky to even find some place to live on that measly amount!
Want to live under a bridge or sleep in a $200,00 car, eat starchy foods, smell all the time! Come to America!! It can be arranged!

I know what you mean...My husband earns over 50k so he gets taxed 40% !!!!! This is a massive amount taken off what he earns every month...even though as a nurse I earn much less my tax is less harsh. Our council tax is beyond a joke...band F !!! Just because it's a new property then theres prescription charges etc... We seem to have most of our money taken off us in tax and charges so it would seem maybe we would all be better off on benefits !!!

the rock and roll (or dole) sucks, ive been on the dole for six months and it is a struggle especially when u wanna go out. plus the jobcentre do bugger all to help you look for work. i dont blame people for being on the dole because these days employers treat people like crap and dont even bother letting you know the outcome of a job interview!!! at least i can go to college for free when im on the dole.

It sucks, doesn't it? I was better off on the dole but decided to put myself, and my son, through the tough decision to go to work, study at uni and be a full-time single mum. I am seriously considering going to the States to live where I will be appreciated and welcomed for my skills, knowledge and qualifications I've gained over the years.
