When you compress you drive, Windows takes some of the files you have not accessed in a long time and compresses them to make them smaller and free some hard drive space. But should access that file in the future, it will be slower because Windows has to uncompress it before you can use it. So you will lose a little speed to gain hard drive space.

I use O&O Defrag., from Germany. And www.rosecitysoftware.com -- I use their registry compressor.

Even with defrag., you will still have one or two files fragmented that are not fixed.

The compressor will put your registry together with no spaces on the HDD.
You have to reboot after. Always good when you download files or remove files.

Only if you are short on disk space. Otherwise skip it.
