Good question:)/ It's an original american quote which is meant as a greeting only. I think it came upon us in the last several years
probley kids from school came up with it.
Severla other sayings alone the same line are

whites; "hey man" "pull up and take a load off your feet ,"what's up"

blacks; "wat it is dude"
"my man" :"you ant jiving me man"
Another quote or expression i sone that came up with the internet is one all people now use when saying good by or nite :
"take care" I never heard this until the internet came aloneand I began to use it.
My wife has asaying which is one of my favorites>
"when I found out I nearly fell over dead".
