i agree!! the best thrift store i have been to so far is the Unique thrift store in Chicago. It's huge, and you can find some pretty brand name stuff there. You don't have to be in a financial bind to go to a thrift store; why pay $30 for the same Gap shirt you can get for $5? Some of the stuff is in such new condition that it's hard to believe what some people give away. I love thrift stores. :)

Well, most thrift stores have less in the larger sizes, so I don't buy clothes in thrift stores for myself. But some of my friends are extremely stylish and classy, in normal figures and thrift store clothes. They are not even really second-hand, as often someone will donate clothes they have literally never worn. It was given as a gift, but did not fit or was not the right color, etc. It was bought without trying on, or just before a substantial change in weight. Sadly, some were probably bought by compulsive shoppers, who must clean out their closets periodically to make room for recent acquisitions, whether or not they ever got around to wearing the garment. If you look closely, some of the thrift store's classiest clothes look as though they were literally never worn, or were so well cared for and worn so seldom that the difference is negligible.
Your point is well made: once you have brought it home, how is someone to know (unless you tell them) that a given item in your possession was used by someone else first? If it does not look brand new, so what? Most of your stuff is not brand new, after all; recent, maybe, but not knew. Certainly furniture, dishes, flatware, DVDs and CDs and so on get donated to the thrift stores while they are still in excellent condition. Not all the time, of course; but often enough that if you do some checking around, you can save quite a bundle. I'm nearly 60, and I've only very rarely (and very long ago) bought new furniture. And that was unfinished, and I did the stain and varnish myself. Otherwise, used would have been better, not only for the price but the relative quality. Just doesn't seem necessary to spend money for new, even if I could afford it. I've got plenty of better things to do with my money!

I totally agree!
For those who won't wear clothes others have worn, you probably are doing just that. Retail stores can and do reattach price tags and etc. to clothes that were returned after a wearing or 2.
I buy most of my designer stuff at thrift stores...everything aside from underclothes.
And as mentioned, there are plenty of times I've bought clothes in thrift stores with the sales tags on them. It'a also better for the environment to buy from thrift stores.

BANG - you nailed it!
The thrift store is the gay man's Mecca for the best styles half of the time. The whole craze about wearing tuxedo jackets about town were the fact that a surplus of tuxedo jackets were down at the Thrift Stores.
I bought a used suit for $10, got it altered for $7 and saved about $450.
The trick is to find the thrift store near the decent neighborhoods which have the designer clothes.

I love shopping thrift stores...many times I walk away with clothing that still has labels / tags attached from the original store they were purchased in.....
however......
the thrift store by me recently started " over pricing " items .........it's almost too expensive to shop there any more....
everyone wants to squeeze everyone else for everything they can get....

thrift stores rock! i absolutely see the point of wearing labels, the clothes are usually of much better quality, but why pay through the nose for them?
