i grew up listening to TLC, Brandi, Celine, early J-Lo (before she was J-LO). No matter what brand of music your into there are really stupid songs. but in the 90's you actually had real songs comming out of these artists. Simple, but thought out love songs that i cant really give all examples of. I remember simple songs with lyrics like "if at first you don't succeed/dust yourself and try again"... and even like 7 years ago where songs like "Scrubs" that tell chicks not to settle for cheap a*s whipes (in simpler terms).

What's with these dumb songs like, "My Hump" where the chick talks about her "lady lumps" and says very little else. i'm not asking about morality, i'm just asking, where the f* is all the talent in the music once song.

Artists like Alicia Keeys, John Legend, Anthony Hamilton, Usher, Keisha Cole, Mary J Blige, Beyonc'e, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera. All very talented the problem is the pressure for record companies to invent the next big think. They have this formula and the think they can plug in a pretty face and wham success!

You are absolutely right!!! People now a days like the beats to songs. I do too, but the lyrics either don't make sense, are nasty, or just plain stupid. I only pray that someone will lead music back to where it is supposed to be. Maybe me. I can really sing and one day i hope to be famous. I'll remember your question when my director or whomever wants me to sing something trashy.

I completely agree! I miss artists like Boyz II Men, Jodeci, R. Kelly, 112, Aaliyah, Babyface, Brian McKnight, etc. that actually had decent music. I used to love all the R&B ballads that came out, like "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men. The "R&B" music of today really sucks!

I dunno music in general is declining, because taste in the public is pretty bad...look at youtube and notice how the music video for Laffy Taffy is like 5 stars with thousands of votes
