Most reputable companies like Amazon use a secure server. When you click onto the payment page look for a padlock icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Also, the 'http' in the URL field should have changed to 'https'. This means it is secure, your details are coded and no-one can view them.

I have ordered loads of books and other things online and have never had any fraud.

I've bought loads of stuff worth a lot of money online and never had a problem, but you should be very sure you are dealing with a secure seller and don't give your details to anybody unless you are sure. Amazon & the like are OK.

I frequently order off Amazon. it's safe because it's a reputabke company. If you're still worried then order from them directly rather than one of their sellers as I once ordered an item as a birthday present and it arrived weeks late. If you're just browsing and don't want to buy anything then be wary of sites that ask for your credit information too early.

If you buy from a reputable company such as Amazon then you should be fine, I`ve been buying from them for years and nobody has stolen my banking identity yet!

Amazon do cheap second hand as well as new. Ebay if you're desperate. I haven't tried getcheapbooks.co.uk - but worth a look.
That top100towns link appears to be book shops around the UK.

generally i end up buying most of my stuff from either amazon or ebay. i've never had any problems with either sites. amazon is good with books...expecially if you're not worried about them being in mint condition. with ebay you could sign up for the paypal. it's a really secure way to pay for items and most of the sellers prefer payments made with paypal.

I always buy from online merchants who accept PayPal.
This is a third party who takes the information and simply credits their account after taking it from your account or credit card. This way, you can get your money back if you don't get the merchandise or if it is not what they said it was, as long as you file a claim within 45 days.

I have bought from numerous sites and never had a problem. But if you are worried then stick with a well known company like Amazon.
