My little brother's school is having a singing-competition, and anyone is allowed to join. I have no problems with singing, but I'm not sure what song to select to sing. I was thinking of Whitney Houston's "Always Love You" or Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On". But I think people are tired of those songs. Which song would be best that requires alot of hard work like those? I have no problems with my voice, so do not be affraid when suggesting a hard song.

Don Quiote's "The Impossible Dream"
from MAN OF LA MANCHA (1972)
music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion

"The Impossible Dream"

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

a song by journey or foreigner (i can't remember which) entitled "as the lights go down in the city". a great, great song with constant singing, lots and lots of range, and can be performed by man or woman at any speed. a truly enjoyable song most every one loves. i can't for the life of me figure out why no one sings it, especially on a show like American Idol. this song gives goosebumps and cold chills!!!! you'll win the contest with this one. it'll be tough to top steve perry's version but its a WOW of a song just the same.

any of those you mentioned. you want to choose a familiar tune so they can compare. "The Rose" might be one.
