Have you tried steam cleaning, this is really good. You can hire one or buy a small hand held steam cleaner that will do rugs, carpets and curtains.

Take it outside and string up something like a clothes line. Get out the hose and spray it until it's clean. Let hang dry. Of course you'll have to wait until you know there will be no rain. I'm not kidding, my Mom used to do that to her Orientals rugs and they were beautiful.

Depending on whether you have access to a dog-****-free lawn(sorry!) - try taking it outside early one morning, turn it over and drag it over the morning dew. This has worked for us in the past on antique rugs too precious to use chemicals on, but are too musty to leave!

How about you get help and take it out to have a good airing out? If you have a clothes line then you can hang it up and maybe spray it down? If that's impossible then you may have to get a prefessional to clean it good for you, depending if it's worth it to you or not.
