Mine do poo in the corners, and it's usually the least accessible corner for me to clean, like behind my HUGE entertainment center, but that's normal, and forgiveable. The thing that my male, Loki, does that irks me is he'll wait until I am not paying any attention and laying on my belly reading or watching TV or something, then he'll sneak up under the blanket and bite me just behind my knee. He don't let go either, nooooo, he has to roll with that tender knee flesh in his chompers. My female, Zahra, is a beggar. She will beg for anything she sees me put into my mouth, and if she don't get it she will cry, unless she is out, and then she trys to steal it. You should hear them playing with a stolen empty soda can, the more shiny the better, they've even taught my german shepherd, Ares that trick. The funny thing is that when they get into trouble and get caught, they will butter me up by giving kisses.

PS as for the stink, Marshall's BI-ODOR (tm) Ferret Waste Deodorizer cuts down a LOT of that smell that they have, and not just their waste, but them as well. It's about $10 to $15 a bottle, but it is well worth it.

Read a book about ferrets before you get one. It will explain a lot about them and make their behaviors more understandable/acceptable. If you can afford it get two. Ferrets love company.

Yes, ferrets poop, and pee in corners. However they can be litterbox trained.

Yes, ferrets smell. Even though their scent glands are removed when they are babies, they are still from the skunk family and have a definite scent all the time. Don't shampoo them too much or they will get all dry and flaky skin. Trust me when I tell you that if you keep their environment clean, change their litterbox, etc... the smell will be minimal

Yes, ferrets bite. Especially when they are babies. Biting can be curbed with Bitter Apple; spray it on your socks because they love attacking toes!

Ferrets also like hiding stuff. Mine liked dragging my shoes under the couch. It was hilarious to watch.

Be warned: they are very flexible and lightning quick. If they can get past their eyes into a hole, they can get the rest of their body in and you'll have a hell of a time getting them out.

Overall, the fun outweighs the hassle. Enjoy!

Umm............I love my ferret very much! The only thing that sometimes I really don't care for is when he wakes up like in 3am or 4am moving about in his cage! Though don't judge the ferret species on just one ferret; they are all different! Try a ferret rescue shelter they might have the perfect ferret for you!

when they gotta go they gotta go and usually its the nearest corner. they smell horrid. If you do get a ferret remember to ferret proof the house. keep cabnets closed and locked, seal small holes, and keep dangerous items out of reach. other than that they are very fun! if u get 2 its hilarious. dont forget a hammock.

and they are pack rats dont be surprized it remotes and keys come up missing.

Our three will use a litter pan, once. After it's soiled they'll go anywhere.

And their poop stinks, if we forget to use Bi-Odor in their water.

Our newest one beats up on our older and smaller female.

Ferrets can get a variety of human diseases, including cancer and don't live spectacularly long (6 years is pretty old). Make sure they get regular vet visits and the best food you can get. Here's a useful link:

On the positive side, they are cute as hell. My wife does stained glass & our ancient ferret, Otto, likes to run, play and hide in her glass shop. Once he tires out, he hides himself in a drawer and pulls it closed. It's quite an experience to see a drawer "open itself" as Otto wakes up and opens the drawer and sticks his head up and looks around as if to say "What did I miss?"

He also likes to play on the light table in the glass shop and relocate pieces of glass and tools onto the floor.
