Thank you to all who answered this question. It was nice to see real answers from real people instead of some people on here who are rude, insensitive, and extremely unkind.

Challenger catastrophe I was home from grade school with the chicken pox and I was supposed to tape the Young and the Restless for my mom, but it never came on cause of the accident.
On 9/11 I had the day off from work and I was at a local bookstore shopping and I remember that all the employees were watching the TV and I was upset at first cause I needed help locating a book.
Has anyone seen the 9/11 documentary 'Loose Change'? You can view the whole movie at Google Video. Very Interesting!!! Highly Recommended!!

Well I remember both events quite vividly. I was in a 9the grade science class in '86. When the teacher made the announcement, I thought she must have made a mistake or was nuts. Shuttles just don't blow up? It was not until I got home that it hit me watching the TV. My father worked on some shuttle systems at GE & I had met some astronauts as well. So the whole thing was a shock.

Sept. 11th....... Englishtown, NJ. Inspecting a footing subgrade for a golf course clubhouse. Got a cel call from my mother to turn on the radio. In the distance of about 30mi, I could see the smoke from the fire. As I drove to the next project, a CVS near Princeton Jct.; I heard the news guy say the one of the towers collapsed? As someone who had visited the WTC had spent the last few years in construction, I was dumbstruck. All work stopped, planes were grounded, traffic was nuts, and I was on the wrong side of the river from home. All I could think of the next few days was how quiet it was with not one plane in the sky. Weird........

I was working for a newspaper in Washington, DC in those days. I lived on Capitol Hill and took a long walk down the National Mall that morning, since I normally started work at noon.

In between the time the two planes hit the World Trade Center and the third plane hit the Pentagon, I was taking a shortcut up the Capitol steps with no clue what was going on in New York.

I had just dropped my kids off to school, was drinking coffee and turned the tv on. I can still remember the chill because when I turned it on it had only hit the first building. My sisters had called me to ask what was going on because they were at work with no tv, and right when I was telling them the second plane flew into the other building.
I stayed glued to the tv the rest of the day, and still remember when the President got the news while visiting a school. The chemical plants and industries here in Louisiana immediately went on high alert. THAT was a horrible day that I hope never happens to our country again.

I was working at Hannaford Brothers as a cashier. I didn't know what had happened until the manager sent me home early. He told me to turn the TV on and which channels to watch. When people around me heard this the had all stopped talking and became very very quiet. The manager knew at the time when I was working I had family and friends out that way in NY.

I was devistated to learn of the whole ordeal. And that was what I was doing, I didn't return to work for 5 days after the incident.

I was starting the work day when rumours spread that planes had hit the towers. One lady said she heard it live on the radio when the second one hit. I was freaked out and couldn't imagine anything like that happening. Nobody could get through on the internet, so I walked home to watch CNN.

I was in my living room after getting my two oldest to school and my youngest was on the floor just a tiny baby. I was on the phone with my sister while the TV was on the morning news. We live close to an airport and after that the army was doing alot of manoeuvres close to our home my children were having lots of nightmares about planes crashing in our field so i did not let them watch TV for a while after.

I was sleeping in listening to the news on my clock radio. I was sleeping in because I had to work a night shift at the Burn Intensive Care unit. I got up in time to see the 2nd plane hit. When I got to work, we got a call from FEMA, they had a plan in place to airlift the burn patients from NYC to Burn ICU's across the country. We were told to get ready for them, they estimated hundreds of patients. The Patients never came, they died when the towers fell. Four months later I enlisted.

My mom home schooled me and my brothers and sisters. I remember turning on the t.v and watching the news. It took a while for it to sink in but then when it finally did I was devastated! I didn't know if all of a sudden they were going to bomb my house or what they were going to do next. It terrified me!
